Five targets, one shot each, fired from left to right

A Hunt waits until the line wins are paid. Then five shots go off from left to right, one per target, each a hit or a miss. Every animal on a hit reel turns into something worth money, and its stars set the floor: one star at least a Bronze Coin (0.2x to 1x), two a Silver (2x to 5x), three a Gold (10x to 50x), and the four-star lion a Trap worth at least a Gold. Above that come Diamond Coins at 100x to 500x. Card ranks stay as they are.

A spin never shows more than one Hunting Season symbol, and never one beside an FS symbol, so it hunts or heads for a bonus, never both. 11 base spins of our log hunted, for €186.00 between them, and none hit more than 3 targets.

Line pays are modest. The four card ranks pay up to €2.00 for five, ostrich and giraffe €6.00, zebra €20.00, rhino €30.00, lion and Wild €50.00.

Traps collect first, Wild multipliers act second

A Trap adds the values of all Coins and other Traps on the grid to its own, and the Coins it collects keep theirs, so the same amount is paid twice. A Wild on a reel that was shot gets a multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, x10 or x20, and once the Traps are done each such Wild multiplies one to five Coins or Traps.

The eighth spin of our bought Khaki Quest showed the order. Shots hit reels 2 to 5: two rhinos became Gold Coins of 10x, one ostrich a 0.2x Bronze, the other a 2x Silver, and the lion a 10x Trap. The Trap took the 22.2x on the grid and reached 32.2x, and only then did the Wild on reel 5 get x4 and multiply two Coins, 10x into 40x and 2x into 8x.

That Hunt alone paid €180.80. The best base spin of our log, 43x on spin 293, worked the same way on a smaller scale: one shot hit reel 4, a Wild there took x2 and doubled a Coin to 40x.

Stampede Reveals: no J, Q, K or A for one spin

Before the symbols land, a spin can turn into a Stampede Reveal: a Hunting Season symbol is certain to land and no low-paying symbol can, so the shots meet a grid of animals and Wilds. The server's answers name the reel set of every spin, and all 500 of ours ran on the default one, without a single Stampede Reveal. Big Five FeatureSpins buy one on every spin.

Khaki Quest, Roaring Reign and the hidden Zebrawl

Scatters choose the bonus. Three FS in one base spin give Khaki Quest, 8 free spins with a higher chance of Hunting Season symbols. Four give Roaring Reign, 10 free spins where Stampede Reveals come from the Lion Bar instead of at random. Five give Zebrawl, the hidden bonus: Roaring Reign's rules plus a Hunting Season symbol on every spin, and no FS symbols. During Khaki Quest or Roaring Reign, two more FS give 2 extra spins and three give 4. The Lion Bar moves one step for each low-paying symbol on a reel a Hunt hits, and ten steps bring a Stampede Reveal on the next spin.

Seven spins of that clip made €7.80, most of it from an early Hunt that left three Coins on the grid, at 2x, 0.6x and 1x. Everything else came on the eighth.

Three Khaki Quests in the log, and one the script lost

500 paid spins at €2.00 returned €748.80, 74.9% of the stake. Something came back on 37.8% of spins, 0.4x being the median win, and the driest spell lasted 10 spins.

Each bonus was a Khaki Quest. The first came on spin 2 for 28.2x, and the highest balance of the run, €5,065.60, followed two spins after it. The second came on spin 183 for 23.9x, the third on spin 214 for 89.3x, most of it from free spin 2, where four of the five shots hit and the Coins paid €143.20.

The bonuses with their trigger spins brought €282.80, base Hunts €186.00 and lines the other €280.00, and the balance finished at its lowest, €4,748.80.

One more Khaki Quest landed after spin 315. The server played it to the end, €219.40 with a Trap on free spin 7, then answered "Game not found"; our script started a new session, and that round is not part of the 500 spins above.

Two free spins cards and three FeatureSpins modes

The three FeatureSpins modes keep charging their price spin after spin until switched off. BonusHunt, at 2x, is the only one of them in which a bonus can still land. Hunting Season FeatureSpins guarantee a Hunt on every spin for 50x and Big Five FeatureSpins a Stampede Reveal for 100x, and in neither can an FS symbol appear.

Both bonus cards are labelled Medium. Khaki Quest returns 96.10%, and Roaring Reign 96.31%. Both percentages come from the demo; a casino may be running Hacksaw's 94.21%, 92.30% or 86.24% version, and in some countries the whole buy menu is missing.

For €120.00 our Khaki Quest returned €188.60, 94.3x the bet, over eight spins with no retrigger.

Where the safari sits among this site's games

Hacksaw's page does not call it a sequel, but Bigwinboard treats it as the follow-up to Great Game Rockies and notes that the RTP "has dropped ever so slightly to 96.29%". We have not played Rockies.

The Hunt is easy to follow, since every fallen target and every new Coin shows on screen. Our log paid back less than three quarters of its stake, with three modest Khaki Quests and no Roaring Reign, so get a feel for the rhythm in the demo before you buy anything.
