Chaos Crew Demo: Free Play and Review
Updated Demo client 1.67.1Hacksaw Gaming, September 2020
Hacksaw rates Chaos Crew 5 out of 5 for volatility, the top of its scale, and the game earns it. Released in September 2020, it puts the punk duo Cranky and Sketchy on a five-by-five grid with 15 fixed lines. Cranky Cat wilds carry x2, x3 or x5 and multiply each other on a line, and the free spins build a counter above every reel towards a 10,000x cap.

Cranky Cat wilds in the base game
The cyan zombie cat is the only wild. It substitutes for every symbol except FREE SPIN and reveals a multiplier of x2, x3 or x5 when it lands. Two or more cats on the same line multiply each other instead of adding up, so a pair of x5 cats turns a line win into 25 times its paytable value.

Without a cat the lines pay little. At a €2.00 bet five low symbols return €2.00, and even five tentacles, the best symbol, pay €24.00.
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8-ball, skull, smiley, X, lightning | 0.15x | 0.3x | 1x |
| Moth, brain, apple core | 1x | 2x | 5x |
| Tentacle | 2x | 7x | 12x |
Our on-screen session showed what the cats are for. Two x2 Cranky Cats landed together on the second spin and the spin paid €16.00, 8x the bet, more than any five-of-a-kind on the board except the tentacle.

Can Chaos Crew pay 10,000x in the base game?
The rules do not say it can. They call 10,000x the "maximum feature win" and name the free spins as the mode where it can be achieved. In the base game the money comes from line wins times Cranky Cat multipliers, which multiply each other on a line; in our 500 logged spins the best base spin paid 14.3x the bet.
Free spins: counters above the reels
Three FREE SPIN symbols switch the game to a different screen. Each reel gets a number above it, the round starts with three spins, and every symbol that does something resets the counter to three. Three empty spins in a row end it, and the win is the sum of the five numbers times the bet.

Four symbols move the numbers. Cranky Cat multiplies the number above its reel by x2, x3, x5, x10 or x20; Sketchy Skull adds +1, +2, +5, +10 or +20 to it. Their Epic versions, on hazard-striped tiles, apply the same values to every reel at once. Everything else on the free spins grid is a blank such as "NO!" or "NOPE!".

The round we bought for €258 finished at €388.00, 194x the bet, which the game announced as a Super Mega Win. The whole two minutes are in the video, including the moment an Epic Sketchy Skull lifts all five counters at once.
One option in the buy menu
The menu sells exactly one thing: the free spins round. It costs 129x the bet, a price no other slot on this site uses, and the card labels it Extreme.
| Option | Price | At €2.00 | RTP | Volatility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free Spins Reel counters that grow with every Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull | 129x | €258.00 | 95.92% | Extreme |

The buy is the rare case where buying returns clearly less than playing: 95.92% against 96.30% for the base game, a gap of 0.38 points. In the other slots reviewed here, no buy option sits more than 0.11 points below its base game.
500 logged spins and what volatility 5 feels like
The figures below come from 500 base spins at €2.00 played by script on Hacksaw's demo server, with every win recorded. Nothing was bought.
Free spins came twice: spin 45 paid 39x and spin 167 paid 97x, the session's high point at €5,065.50. The base game never matched them. Its best spin, number 462, paid 14.3x, and the longest dry run lasted 31 spins.
From spin 167 on, the balance mostly drifted down and closed at its lowest point of the run, €4,651.50; the 500 spins returned 65.1% of the money staked. That is the shape a 5 out of 5 slot is supposed to have over a short session: the money sits in the rare free spins, and 500 spins is too short to count on one of the big ones.
Chaos Crew questions
For another cat-themed Hacksaw game with more lines and a lower volatility score, see the RIP City demo.
What is the RTP of Chaos Crew?
The default version returns 96.30%, according to the rules inside the game. Hacksaw also lists 92.40% and 88.40% versions, and buying the free spins returns 95.92%.
How do Cranky Cat multipliers work?
In the base game each cat shows x2, x3 or x5, and cats on the same line multiply each other. In free spins a cat multiplies the number above its reel by up to x20, and an Epic cat does it for all five reels.
How long do Chaos Crew free spins last?
There is no fixed length. The round starts with three spins and goes back to three each time a Cat or Skull symbol lands; it ends after three empty spins in a row.
How much does the Chaos Crew bonus buy cost?
129x the bet, so €258 at the default €2.00 stake. It is the only option in the menu.
Is Chaos Crew worth a demo session?
Yes, as a lesson in what a 5 out of 5 rating means. The free spins mechanic is clever and easy to follow on screen, and the bought round we filmed paid 1.5 times its price. The base game, though, is thin: in our log it paid on a quarter of spins and produced nothing above 15x in 500 tries. Treat it as a free spins slot and judge it by how often the three FREE SPIN symbols turn up for you.
